Dominika Madro: Physicality and Folklore

She was born in 1990 in Myjava. She studied Slovak language and literature at the Comenius University in Bratislava and subsequently dramaturgy and screenwriting at the Academy of Performing Arts. She won the jubilee 20th year of the literary competition Poviedka [Short Story] with the text Svätyňa [Shrine]. She is the holder of the Child Award 2019 and the Fantasy Award 2019, she makes corrections and writes radio plays for children. She worked in Bibiana, the International House of Art for Children in Bratislava, and she was a part of the team of the International Festival of Animated Films for Children – Biennial of Animation in Bratislava 2018. Her debut novel was published in 2019 and is called Svätyňa [Shrine].  The novel from the Myjava Kopanice brings current topics in a story several centuries old – infertility as a taboo, violence against women or special forms of parenthood.
